Dr. Anne Procyk is a naturopathic physician and the founder of Third Stone Integrative Health Center. She has been practicing as an integrative primary care physician for 25 years, helping thousands of patients and developing a keen understanding of the complex relationships between physical and mental health.

In addition to serving her busy practice, she has taught seminars nationwide on “Healing Chemical Imbalance Without Drugs: Integrative Medicine and Nutrition for Mental Health Disorders.”  Her book, “Nutrition for Mental Health: Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions for Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, & ADHD” now makes this information available for everyone.

Philosophy

“I decided to become a naturopathic physician because I wanted to understand how people work: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. How the biochemistry and physiology of the human body yields the emergent qualities of consciousness and soul fascinates me. How intangibles like thoughts and emotions can instantly trigger measurable physical responses never ceases to amaze me.

Science has yielded a tremendous amount of knowledge, but the practice of medicine requires a constant discipline to more deeply understand how to apply that knowledge for the benefit of one unique individual – our patient.

To truly address a person’s needs requires effective communication and understanding of underlying causes. I am honored by the opportunity to work with people at all stages of health, and feel eternally grateful for the ability to help people transform their lives through improved health.”

Education

Dr. Anne Procyk earned her doctorate at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine and graduated cum laude from Carleton College with degrees in chemistry and medical ethics. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Connecticut Naturopathic Physicians Association, the Utah Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Association for the Advancement of Restorative Medicine. She was also a founding board member of Autism Families CONNECTicut, a non-profit organization committed to providing social and recreational opportunities for children and families affected by autism.

How Hormones Affect Your Mood And Focus

When most people think about hormones, they think about sex drive and PMS, and maybe menstrual irregularities or fertility.  But hormones affect every part of the body and brain, and hormone imbalances can cause many other symptoms, in both men and women!

Hormones aren’t just estrogen and testosterone; they also include thyroid hormones, adrenal hormones, and others.  When these complex systems aren’t working properly, some of the first and most common symptoms are:

  • Moodiness and/or Irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep Problems
  • Brain Fog

When symptoms are severe enough, they sometimes get mislabeled as anxiety, bipolar 2, depression, or ADHD.  But when underlying hormone imbalances are the true cause of the symptoms, the medications typically used do NOT address the real issue and therefore often fail.  True healing only happens when we give the body what it needs to balance hormone which eliminates symptoms permanently.
